Next Meeting — Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the Coliseum Restaurant & Bar. Noon, as always. The speaker will be Cindy Herbst from Restoring Hope Transplant House. This is the facility in Middleton which we have supported, and which serves UW Hospitals transplant recipients and their families. We will get an update on how this assistance to a life-saving process is working, and how we can be of further help.
Our last meeting began with a double headed question from the TailTwister, on which the editor went 0 for 2. President MIKE rang the bell to begin the formalities, and with the strung-out (physical, not mental) seating, achieved at least a spreading pool of silence. That done, SCOTT GROVER reported on the recent Highway Cleanup event. As usual, there were some unusual finds — a wrapped ham (no report on “use by” date) and DALE BURMESTER found a dollar bill. Don't know where either one went, and no used golf ball count, but we got some “thank yous” from passersby, and a good time was had by all. Workers were: SCOTT GROVER and daughter ANN CAROTHERS, LINDA BERGREN and hubby David York, JOHN JENSON, DALE BURMESTER and President MIKE KNOWLTON. Word from their efforts was “business is picking up.”
We are again sponsoring a Summer Bags Tournament, with the help of the Coliseum Bar. Date will be July 15. Flyers for distribution and other details will follow.
We got a “Preliminary Final Report” on the Flower Sale from MELISSA NOVINSKI. Detailed and meticulous as usual, the report revealed an alarming but not unexpected decline in sales. At this point we have made about $1,700, of which $700 remains to be collected. If you have money from the sale please get it to MELISSA, ASAP, or sooner. CRAIG BUTLER and ROSS ROYSTER were once again the top salesmen, and a full list will be shown when the report is “final.”
Deliverers, those largely unsung but absolutely vital cogs in the machine, were LINDA BERGREN/David York, DALE BURMESTER, STEVE BRIGGS, SCOTT GROVER, JOHN JENSON, PHIL INGWELL, MIKE KNOWLTON, CHARLIE and TRISH LIBERTY, Doug Mahaffey, ROSS ROYSTER, TERRY SCHAR and GAIL STIRR. It was reported that the construction on the Square made the usually difficult task of delivery in that area nearly impossible, but our stalwarts soldiered through it and got the job done. Happily, there were NO requests for replacements, so the (few) surplus bouquets we ended up with were donated to Brookdale Care Center.
