Next Meeting - Tuesday, March 1. Hopefully, March will come in like a lamb, and the mobs will go away like sheep, and we can have our meeting in relative peace and quiet. JIM KEMMETER is in charge of the program, but we don't know what precedents he plans to set or follow on that day, so come and find out. Might get a little free legal advice thrown in, too.

Last meeting was attended by eleven courageous Lions, undaunted by the eyewitness tales of mobs assembling in the area. While it was true that one of the 11 had to alter his course to walk to the meeting, and your editor snuck up Langdon St. by car, everything turned out to be OK around the Edgewater. The editor was nearly trapped there some years ago by a big snowstorm that made exiting the garage problematic, so this was no big deal. We ate better than the mobs, too.

Pres. JIM SCHUTZ opened the meeting and doubled as song leader, and DALE MUELLER gave the invocation. Not surprisingly, there were no guests. It was reported that the wife of long-time Lion SAM SANFILLIPPO had passed away. The funeral having been held at the same time as our meeting, DALE MUELLER represented our Club at the visitation, and reported that SAM was released from the VA Hospital just in time for the service. No word as to what ails SAM, but our Club's sympathy goes out to him, and we hope he's feeling better.

There was a brief LINDA BERGREN sighting and it was good to know she's back on her feet, but she's still recuperating from her surgery and has some more medical stuff to do, so she was definitely part time last week. We hear she'll be with us next Tuesday to give the invocation, which is really good news. If you need Holiday Treats, we still have some, and JODI or JIM can get them for you.

The District Governor wasn't able to make his visit, and will make another run at it in a few weeks. In his absence, PDG JOHN JENSON presented an award to SCOTT GROVER for his work in founding and guiding the new East Side Lions Club, which is presently operating as a branch of our Club until they can assemble the 20 members they need to be independent.

JERRY HODDINOTT passed out order blanks and advertising fliers for our Flower Sale. Commitment forms are due next Tuesday, Mar. 1, and the flower delivery is set for Monday, April 25. The Edgewater will be the delivery headquarters, as it was last year. Rose Bouquet, either all red or mixed colors, is $25.00; Mixed Flowers bouquet is $20.00 and vases are $5.00. (This price turns them into vah-ses and makes them a profit item.) There will be some greens added to the rose bouquets this year to embellish them a bit. As we have said every year for about the past 20, FILL OUT THE ORDER BLANK COMPLETELY, AND BE SURE TO GIVE DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS!! Your fellow Lions who are making the deliveries need to know exactly where to find the recipients without having to hunt for them. JERRY's wife Lani was scheduled for knee replacement surgery last week, so we hope she's doing well, and JERRY's probably getting a lot of "fetch and carry" practice.

SCOTT GROVER has acquired, from somewhere (probably the magic of the Internet), a Lion costume which he modeled for us. This gave rise to a number of comments, mostly revolving around what it's like to be stuck inside a Lion head. At least the lion doesn't have to do pushups like Bucky Badger, so the suit probably is a little more habitable. There were a couple remarks that the editor couldn't hear about "Homer The Lion", so this may explain the origin of the costume - JIM BRADLEY's Home Savings Bank has, or had, a Lion mascot by that name.

Two conventions coming up - District 27-D1 (that's ours) is at the Marriott in Middleton next weekend, March 11 and 12, and the State Convention is in Appleton at the Paper Valley Hotel on May 19-20-21. Our club will pay the registration for any member that attends, and it's a chance to meet a lot of Lions and get a wider view of what Lions are and do, so you should go. If you need information, talk to Sec. JOHN JENSON. Be there, aloha! (Those old enough to recognize that one have probably been there, more than once.)
